1. Messengers of God
The word angel literally means “messenger.” Throughout Scripture, angels deliver important messages from God to His people.
Luke 1:26–28 (KJV) describes the angel Gabriel appearing to Mary:
“And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God… to a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph… And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee…”
Gabriel delivered the miraculous news that Mary would give birth to Jesus. Angels often serve as divine messengers during significant moments in history.
2. Protectors and Guardians
Psalm 91:11 (KJV) says:
“For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.”
This is one of the most quoted verses about angels, especially when discussing divine protection. Angels are assigned by God to guard and watch over His children.
Though the term “guardian angel” isn’t specifically used in the Bible, Jesus said something interesting in Matthew 18:10 (KJV):
“Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.”
This verse hints that angels have a personal connection to individual believers—especially children.
3. Worshipers in Heaven
Angels continually worship God in His presence.
Revelation 5:11–12 (KJV) says:
“And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels… saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain…”

Revelation 12:7 (KJV) tells of a heavenly battle:
“And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels…”
Michael the archangel is depicted as a commander in God’s army. Angels are active in spiritual warfare, helping to fulfill God’s judgment and defend His people.
Do People Become Angels When They Die?
A common myth is that people become angels after death. While this may be comforting to hear, the Bible does not support this idea. Humans and angels are separate creations.
Psalm 8:5 (KJV) says:
“For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.”
This verse emphasizes the distinction between man and angels. When believers die, they go to be with the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:8), but they do not become angels.
Should We Worship or Pray to Angels?
Absolutely not. Scripture warns us against worshiping angels. They are fellow servants—not divine beings.
Revelation 22:8–9 (KJV):
“And I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel… Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellowservant… worship God.”
Angels direct all praise back to God. Any attempt to worship or pray to them is a distortion of their purpose and dishonors the Lord.
Are Angels Still Active Today?
Yes. While we may not always see them, angels are still at work today—carrying out God’s purposes, protecting believers, and serving as unseen messengers.
Hebrews 13:2 (KJV) offers a powerful reminder:
“Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.”
This verse reminds us that we may encounter angels without even knowing it. God still uses His heavenly beings to intervene in our lives in miraculous ways.
